Message Review
Negative thoughts On Repeat have the power to negatively impact everything. Paul encourages us to take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. We do this by the renewal of our minds. We are transformed when what’s On Repeat in our minds is set on things above.
Main Point: We are transformed when what’s On Repeat in our minds is set on things above.
Scripture References: Colossians 3:1-5(a)
Discussion Questions
What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon, and why?
Last week we named negative thought patterns we have On Repeat. What do you think could eventually happen if we don’t do anything to interrupt these thoughts?
Thoughts on repeat become beliefs and beliefs become our identity. What are some examples of how the world can shape our minds and become an identity?
Read Romans 12:2:
What do you think Paul is trying to communicate in this verse?
Why would the enemy want us to conform our identity to the world (culture, politics, etc)?
Why is it so important, then, to “renew our minds”? What does renewing our minds look like?
Read Colossians 3:1-5(a):
What do you notice in this passage?
What main point(s) was Paul communicating about our thoughts?
In vs 2, Paul tells us to set our minds on things above, not earthly things. What are examples of earthly things that easily occupy your mind?
How can consistently setting our minds to what’s above spark true transformation in our lives?
Coleman gave us some biblical truths to replace with lies: You are loved (Romans 5:8), you are a child of God (John 1:12), and you are redeemed (Ephesians 1:7). What other biblical truths can we speak over lies the enemy tries to sow into our minds?
What are practical things we can do to set our minds above every time a lie tries to take root?
How can we, as a T-Life Group, help each other set our minds above, every day?
