Throughout our 9-week “FruitFULL” series, we’re examining the nine fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-24). This week we focused on Goodness and discovered goodness is the proof because Jesus is goodness.

Discussion Questions

  • What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon, and why?

  • When you think of the word “goodness”, what comes to mind for you?

  • Would you describe yourself as “good”?  Why or why not?

  • In Galatians 5:22, the fifth fruit of the Spirit is goodness (agathōsynē)

    • What is the Biblical definition of goodness (agathōsynē)

    • With this definition in mind, how is the fruit of goodness (agathōsynē) more than just being polite or agreeable?

  • Why does God want to produce the fruit of goodness in us?

  • Read Romans 3:10:

    • What main point(s) was Paul communicating?

  • How do we become righteous in the eyes of a perfectly holy God?

  • Have you received the righteousness of Christ through putting your faith in Jesus by asking Him to be the Forgiver of your sins and the Leader of your life?  If not, what’s stopping you from doing that today?

  • Read Ephesians 5:1-20:

    • What words and phrases stick out to you in this passage and why?

    • What main point(s) was Paul communicating in this passage?

    • Why does Paul connect “goodness” to “light” in vs. 8?

    • How does Paul instruct us to walk in goodness/light?

  • When you become aware of sin in your life, how do you usually respond?

  • What does the fruit of goodness (righteousness) practically look like?

  • Is the fruit of goodness being produced in you? What’s the evidence?

  • How are you currently choosing goodness (righteousness) in your life? In what areas are you struggling?

  • How might Jesus be inviting you to follow Him so that He can produce the fruit of His goodness in you?

  • How can our group pray for you in this area?
