In Week 3 of our “Before You Go” series, Ronnie addressed the tension some people have felt around money and the church. We learned that God does not need or want our money, but He does want our hearts. God uses our generosity to generate transformation in our lives, in our church, and through our church.

• What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon, and why?

• Have you ever thought or said, “the church just wants my money”? If so, when did you feel that tension, and why did you feel it?

• Ronnie said, “I don’t want your money, but I do want you to give generously and sacrificially.” What’s the difference between those two statements?What does it mean to give generously and

• sacrificially to God?

• How can giving generously and sacrificially to God grow our trust in Jesus and deepen our relationship with Him?

• Read Luke 12:13-34:

  • What words or phrases stand out to you in this passage, and why?

  • What is greed (verse 15) and why did Jesus tell us to “watch out” and “be on guard” against it?

  • Why did God call the rich man a fool?

  • In verse 21, what does it mean to store up things for ourselves, but not be rich toward God?

  • What main point was Jesus trying to communicate through the parable in verses 15-21?

  • In verses 22-28, who did Jesus describe as having a lack of trust (little faith) in God?

  • What did Jesus instruct His followers to do in verses 29-31? In terms of money, what does it look like to seek God’s kingdom first?

  • According to verse 34, what happens to our hearts when we give our treasure to God and His Kingdom first? What are the practical implications of that?

  • After reading Jesus’ words in Luke 12, what does it look like to give generously and sacrificially to God?

• Are you giving generously and sacrificially to God?

  • If yes, how have you seen God use your generosity to generate transformation in you, our church, or through our church?

  • If no, why aren’t you? Be honest: is greed or a lack of trust in God preventing you?
