Message Review

The third indicator of a healthy and transformational smaller community is Care. Care is love in action. To care means to practically, intentionally, and sacrificially meet the needs of others. Caring is transforming for the person being cared for, for the person doing the caring, and for the small group. To care for someone requires more than words. Caring requires carrying.

Main Point: Caring requires carrying.

Scripture References: Luke 5:17-26

Discussion Questions

  • What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon, and why?

  • When you hear the word “care”, what comes to mind for you?

  • What’s the difference between saying you care and proving you care?

  • Do you agree that the absence of care kills community? Why or why not?

  • Share a time you felt truly cared for by someone. How did that impact your relationship with them?

  • Read Luke 5:17-26:

    • What words or phrases stick out to you in this passage?

    • What big idea(s) do you take away from this story?

    • Why did this small group of friends go to the extent they did in verses 18-19 to carry their paralytic friend to Jesus?

    • What is the significance of verse 20?

    • In verse 24, what is the significance of Jesus saying, 'The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins,' and then saying to the paralytic, 'Get up, take your mat, and go home'?

    • Ronnie said, “this story powerfully illustrates that caring is transforming.” In what ways was the paralytic transformed because his friends cared for him? How do you think the small group who cared for their friend by carrying him to Jesus were transformed that day?

  • Read Galatians 6:2:

    • What does it mean to “Carry each other’s burdens”?

    • According to Paul, why should we carry each other’s burdens?

  • We see in Luke 5:17-25 and Galatians 6:2 that caring requires carrying. In our T-Life Group, how do we practically care for one another by carrying one another’s burdens?

  • Ronnie challenged us with the phrase, “See a need, meet the need.” What does that phrase mean? How would all of us doing this help our T-Life Group be a more healthy and transformational community?

  • Why is it so important we ask one another for specific help when we have a specific need?

  • Who in your life needs you to help carry them? What’s one practical thing you could do to care for them?

  • Do you need help being carried in any way right now? What can we do to help?

Encourage the use of our Care Team

We’re called to carry one another’s burdens, but we’re never called to do it by ourselves. Sometimes we need to call for backup. The Relevant Community Church Care Team is here to help at any time. Text NEED HELP to 55444
