Sunday was week 3 of a 5-part series entitled “Miracles?”. Throughout this series we’re answering 7 questions about miracles. This week we answered the 5th question, “How do I get me one?” We discovered the posture of surrender positions us in the “miracle zone”.

Discussion Questions:

  • What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon, and why?

  • Is there a special formula (something we must do) to get God to give us a miracle? 

    • If so, what is it? Why have you come to this conclusion?

  • What does your answer to the previous question reveal about what you believe about God and how you relate to Him?

Ronnie said there’s no “miracle formula”, but there are 3 postures that position us in “The Miracle Zone”:

Posture #1—Faith:

  • Read the following 4 statements from Jesus in the gospel of Matthew: 9:22, 9:29, 17:20, 13:48. 

    • What stands out to you in all 4 of these statements?  Does anything surprise you?

    • What does Jesus mean by “faith”?

  • Why does the posture of faith position us in the “miracle zone”?

Posture #2—Prayer:

  • Read what Jesus said in Matthew 7:7-8:

    • What words or phrases stand out to you in this passage, and why?

    • What is Jesus inviting us to do?

    • What does asking, seeking, and knocking reveal about our faith?

  • Why does the posture of prayer position us in the “miracle zone”?

Posture #3—Obedience:

  • Read 2 Kings 5:1-18:

    • What stands out most to you in this story?

    • In verses 5-6 and 11-12, how did the King of Aram and Naaman assume miracles work?

    • In verse 10, what was Elisha inviting Naaman to do by instructing him to wash himself in the Jordan River?

    • What’s the big take away from this story when it comes to being positioned in the “miracle zone”?

  • Why does the posture of obedience position us in the “miracle zone”?

  • Have you ever felt a prompting to obey Jesus in some way and resisted? What happened?

  • Have you ever taken a next step of obedience to follow Jesus? What was the positive or negative impact of that?

Ronnie said the posture that ties faith, prayer, and obedience together is the posture of surrender.

  • What does it mean and look like to be surrendered to God?

  • Why does the posture of surrender position us to experience God’s power and presence?

  • What keeps you from surrendering to God?

  • What would it look like to choose the posture of surrender regarding the miracle you’re currently praying for, or have prayed for in the past?

  • How is Jesus inviting you to surrender in your life right now?

  • How can our group pray for you?
