In Week 2 of the “Games We Play” series, we learned the first relational game we should never play is The Blame Game because it prevents us from playing The Honor Game. The Blame Game assigns responsibility to others. The Honor Game assumes it.

  • What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon, and why?

  • What does it look like to assign blame to someone?

  • Be honest—who have you played the Blame Game with and why? Did blaming them help or hurt your relationship?

  • Has someone ever blamed you for something? How did that impact your relationship with them?

  • Why and how does the Blame Game prevent us from having winning relationships?

  • Read Genesis 3:1-13:

    • What words or phrases stand out to you in this passage?

    • What do you notice about how the serpent tempted Eve to deceive her in vs. 1-5?

    • Why did Eve choose to disobey God (vs. 6)? What does that reveal about sin and temptation?

    • In vs. 8-13, what was Adam and Eve’s response to their choice to sin?

    • Why do you think Adam and Eve both chose to assign blame instead of assume responsibility for sinning?

  • Why is the Blame Game a game we’re so often tempted to play?

  • Other than being relationally devastating, what are some negative consequences of playing the Blame Game?

  • Ronnie said, you can blame things or you can change things, but you can’t do both. What does that mean and why is that the case?

  • What does it look like to assume responsibility instead of assigning blame when someone has wronged or hurt us?

  • What are you blaming someone for that you need to assume responsibility for?
