In Week 4 of our “Before You Go” series, Ronnie addressed the tension some people feel when they say, “I’m not being fed.” At Relevant, we make faith practical because Jesus taught for application. Transformation is produced through application, not simply information.

Discussion Questions:

  • What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon, and why?

  • In your church experience, have you felt the tension, “I’m not being fed” or “it’s not deep enough for me”?  If so, what did you mean by that?

  • Ronnie said most of the time when people say, “I’m not being fed,” what they mean is, “I want more information that grows my knowledge and understanding of God and the Bible.”

    • Is information that grows our knowledge and understanding of God and the Bible important? Why?

    • Does simply getting more information produce transformation? Why or why not?

  • Ronnie said, “At Relevant, we believe transformation is produced through application, not simply information.” What does that mean, and why do we believe that?

  • Read Matthew 7:21-29:

    • What words or phrases stand out to you in this passage, and why?

    • In verse 21, what distinction does Jesus make between calling Him “Lord” and doing the will of the Father?

    • What does the word “practice” mean (verses 24 and 26)?

    • In verses 24-27, what is the difference between the wise person and the foolish person?

    • What did the wise person do that the foolish person did not?

    • What did Jesus say the outcome is of putting and not putting His words into practice?

    • What main point was Jesus communicating in this passage?

  • Ronnie said, “Jesus taught for application, not simply information.” What does that mean, and why was this Jesus’ approach?

  • Have you ever chosen not to apply something God instructed through the writers of Scripture?

    • When and why?

    • How do you think that impacted your faith, relationship with Jesus, or experience of God?

  • Read Hebrews 5:12-14:

    • What sticks out to you in the passage, and why?

    • What contrast does this passage make between milk and solid food?

    • In verse 14, what does the phrase “constant use” mean?

    • What main point(s) was the writer of Hebrews communicating in this passage?

  • Ronnie said, “To be fed, you’ve gotta pick up the fork and eat by applying it.” What does that mean?

  • What next step has Jesus been inviting you to take to follow Him, but for whatever reason you’ve chosen not to?

  • What would it look like to “pick up the fork” and take that next step?
