Message Review
In Week 2 of our 5-week series, “More Words of Wisdom,” we discovered transformation doesn’t happen by accident. It happens by actively and intentionally following Jesus as the Leader of your life.
Main Point | Transformation doesn't happen by accident. It happens by actively and intentionally following Jesus as the Leader of your life
Focus Passages | 2 Peter 1:1-11
Discussion Questions:
What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon, and why?
Why do the writers of Scripture say we need to put our faith in Jesus?
We put our faith in Jesus by asking Him to be the Forgiver of our sins and the Leader of our lives. What does that mean and look like?
God wants to transform us into everything He created us to be.
What does that mean?
Why does God want to do that?
How does that happen?
Is it possible to be transformed into everything God created you to be and not follow Jesus as the Leader of your life? Why or why not?
Read 2 Peter 1:1-11:
What words or phrases stand out to you in this passage?
What main point(s) is Peter communicating in verses 3-4?
Scott said, “Transformation doesn't happen by accident. It happens by actively and intentionally following Jesus as the Leader of your life.” In verses 5-9, what does Peter say that looks like?
In verses 5-7, Peter tells us to add to our faith goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. Which of these qualities feels like a struggle or your “stalled step” right now? Why?
In verses 8-10, what does Peter promise happens when we follow Jesus?
What do you think often happens when someone puts their faith in Jesus but never intentionally takes next steps to follow Him?
Have you put your faith in Jesus by asking Him to be the Forgiver of your sins and Leader of your life?
If not, what’s stopping you from doing that?
If so, are you choosing to actively and intentionally follow Him as the Leader of your life?
Scott gave us three next steps: (1) Identify your stalled step, (2) Invite someone into your transformation process, (3) Practice one intentional act this week.
Which of these next steps do you think Jesus may be inviting you to take?
How can our group pray for you to take that next step?
