“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it give light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.” - Matthew 5:14-16

Message Recap

Throughout history, the people who have changed the world are those who have chosen to be pioneers, in countries, in social policy, in the medical fields and even in outer space. There have been some great pioneers throughout history, but you can’t argue with the fact that Jesus has changed the world more than anyone who ever lived. While on Earth, he was the ultimate example of pioneering for the glory of Father God. And all followers of Jesus are called to pioneer in the same way.

Questions for Reflection

Grab a journal and take time working through the questions below.

  1. Generally speaking, when it comes to faith, would you say that you have been pioneering or settling? Why?

  2. Now thinking about RCC, where have you seen RCC being pioneers? Where have you seen “settling” happen? How are you contributing to both at RCC? (Pioneering/Settling).

  3. Read John 1:1-12. What’s Jesus intention in using the word “light”? (What does he bring against darkness?) What would you classify as darkness in this world?

  4. Read Matthew 5:14-16. Write down and define each of the following terms: 1) You, 2) light of the world, 3) let your light shine before others. 4) your good deeds. 5) Glorify

  5. Would you say your light has been on a stand or that you have been covering up with a bowl? How do you need to respond in order to begin pioneering instead of settling?
