“Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” – Genesis 15:6

Message Recap

The introduction of sin into the human experience left God with somewhat of a dilemma if you will. Where would he begin the task of restoring the world from the effects of sin? Best we can tell, he had a choice to make. Either destroy the sin-infected world and start over, or roll up his sleeves and go to work fixing it, restoring everything to what he originally created it to be…in right standing with him.

Main Point

A right standing with God starts with trust alone.

Questions for Reflection

  • What do you believe it takes for God to accept someone?

  • Have you ever thought about why you believe that? Why do you believe what you believe? (Consider people, circumstances, places, education, etc)

  • Faith based on personal experiences alone eventually buckles under the weight of personal experience. Have your personal experiences ever caused you to doubt or change your beliefs?

  • Read Genesis 12:1-3, 15:4-6 and Romans 4:22-24. Do you think it was hard for Abraham to believe God’s promises? Why or why not? Would you say it is easy or hard for you to believe the same thing?

  • At the end of his message, Pastor Ronnie challenged us to work through the following three questions:

    • Which best reflects how you have viewed a right standing with God starting? Birth? Behavior? Beliefs? A combination of the three? Something else?

    • How has that view affected you, your faith or your view of God?

    • What if a right standing with God really does start with trust alone? What would that mean for you?

What’s Your Next Step?

If you could hear one promise from God, what would you want it to be?
