“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” – Colossians 2:13-14

Message Recap

If you are like most people, there’s probably a chapter in your life you’d like to erase or go back and do over. It might have been as far back as high school or college or maybe a recent relationship. We’ve all made bad decisions we can look back and laugh about, but just as many that elicit nothing but shame and regret. Addressing lingering shame and regret can lead to an experience that ignites personal faith in a way you may not believe possible. But there is only one primary way we actually experience forgiveness for this.

Main Point

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Questions for Reflection

  1. What do you wish you could do over in your life?

  2. Do you resonate with the idea that you need to forgive yourself? Why or Why not?

  3. Do you believe you need forgiveness now? Why or why not? And for what?

  4. Read John 1:1-29. According to that passage, how is Jesus connected to your need for forgiveness?

  5. Why was Jesus death necessary?

  6. Read Colossians 2:13-14.

    • If you are a follower of Christ, how do you feel about the idea that your sin has already been canceled?

    • If you are not a follower of Christ, what is standing in the way of you accepting God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ?
