Job Overview

Position Summary

The Equipping Director directs and leads Relevant’s “Equipping Department”, which exists to equip the church to own and drive the mission. The Equipping Department includes five ministries: Serving Engagement, Volunteer Staff, Relevant Leader Equipping, Leadership Development Program (LDP), and Church Multiplication. The Serving Engagement Ministry engages people in being an active part of the Relevant church body by serving on a team. The Volunteer Staff Ministry onboards and equips Volunteer Staff (committed church members) to own and drive Relevant’s mission. The Relevant Leader Equipping Ministry resources paid staff and volunteer leaders to help them become better leaders. The Leadership Development Program is Relevant’s college internship program. The Church Multiplication Ministry exists to help start new churches and equip church planters. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Infuse Relevant’s mission, vision, direction, and culture into the Equipping Department.

  • Define and direct the strategic vision for the Equipping Department, projecting 2-3 years ahead.

  • Direct and manage the purpose, strategy, budget, culture, health, and overall success of the Equipping Department.

  • Ensure the success and effectiveness of Ministries within the Equipping Department.

  • Oversee volunteer engagement, equipping, effectiveness, health, and culture throughout the Equipping Department

  • Lead strategies and systems to engage every person at Relevant into serving on a team.

    • Understand the serving needs within our church and help cast vision to fill those gaps.

    • Oversee Team Link, an event that happens 3x a year to help people find a team.

    • Ensure people don’t fall through the cracks and are successfully onboarded onto teams.

    • Help reengage people who have disengaged from teams.

  • Engage, inspire, and equip Volunteer Staff to own and drive Relevant’s mission:

    • Oversee our two Volunteer Staff onboarding classes—Relevant 101 and Relevant 201—and their volunteer teams.

    • Commission new Volunteer Staff during Sunday gatherings.

    • Continually equip and engage existing Volunteer Staff to live out their commitments—send Weekly Staff Update email, Annual Staff Celebration event, reengaging disengaged Vol. Staff.

  • Create resources that equip and empower paid staff and volunteer leaders.

  • Lead the program to help equip LDPs (college interns) with the leadership skills and principles to be influential leaders within the local church:

    • Regularly equip and coach LDPs around leadership principles

    • Coach LDP Supervisors on how to better lead and develop their LDPs

    • Oversee the hiring process, evaluation process, and culture for the LDP

  • Oversee the equipping of church planters to help them launch and lead new churches:

    • Plan and execute regular coaching calls and site visits

    • Create and share tools and resources with church planters

  • Serve as a member of RCC’s Leadership Team, which exists to collaboratively create, own, drive, and actively embed the church’s mission, vision, direction, and strategy throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • A whole-hearted commitment to live out the qualifications of a Deacon as outlined in 1 Tim. 3:8-13.

  • Doctrinal Unity: Aligned with RCC’s Statement of Faith.

  • Philosophical Unity: Aligned with RCC’s mission, vision, values, and strategy.

  • Proven to be an influential Kingdom leader.

  • Gifted in leadership.

Skills/Strengths Needed

  • Entrepreneurial: A self-starter who can receive a vision/direction and build strategies to achieve it; able to recognize issues and opportunities and activate solutions.

  • Leader of Leaders: An influential leader who leads by example; equipper of leaders.

  • Developer of People: Effective in walking beside people to develop them as leaders (volunteers, paid staff, church planters).

  • Clear Communicator: Inspirational, empowering, and clear communicator—both written and verbal.

  • Content Creator: Ability to create and write leadership curriculum and content for paid staff, volunteer leaders, and church planters.

  • Organization/Administration: Is organized and efficient with handling administrative and organizational details.
