One Anothering One Another
September 16 - 22  •  Week 2: Encourage One Another

Main Point: Encourage one another in Christ above all else.

Several times in Scripture we see the phrase, “one another.” This sermon series focuses on the commands of one-anothering one another in the way Jesus modeled for and commanded us to obey. We read in Scripture that God has specifically called believers to love one another, valuing their fellow followers of Christ better than themselves. This week we focus on encouraging one another by building each other up in the faith.

Discussion Questions

  1. How do you generally encourage others? What is your favorite way for someone to encourage you?

  2. When is the last time you felt encouraged by another believer or by the Holy Spirit?

  3. We don’t know when Jesus will return, but we know He will. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:11. If you knew that Jesus would be returning today, how would it change the way you lived your life toward one another? What stops you from living your life that way now?

  4. On Sunday Jacob said, “Encourage one another in Christ. It is there that we will find our capacity to overcome darkness. It is in Christ that the lies of Satan and the power of sin is defeated.” What does it mean to encourage one another in Christ?

  5. You and I have been assigned the roles of God’s Kingdom ambassadors and representatives. We are to be unified as the body of Christ, be obedient to the Holy Spirit who resides within us and spurs us toward faithfulness, and in doing so, resonate with the very heart of God. Who is God calling you to one-another? Share with your group and pray for the names mentioned.

Next Step Challenge

Think of the people that God has brought into your life. Make a list of whom you can easily live on mission with for the Kingdom of God. Make another list of names that you feel God has called you to encourage and share the Gospel message. Begin praying daily for those people and finding simple ways to encourage them in Christ. Share the names with the people you first listed so you can be unified in prayer and one-another one another.

Memory Verse

“But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called ‘Today,’ so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” –Hebrews 3:13
