Easter Weekend 2019
April 21 - 27 • This Changes Everything
The resurrection of Jesus changed everything. It fueled Peter’s faith, transformed the life of John, quieted Thomas’ doubts, and has the power to change your life. Jesus defined Himself as the “Resurrection and the life,” and we are reminded of the eternal life we have through Jesus. This Easter, would you consider taking a next step of faith by asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins and be the Lord and leader of your life? Would you follow Him with your doubts and reservations because of the resurrection? If you have already done so, who in your life will you share this hopeful message of the resurrection of Jesus that changes everything? What Easter traditions did you have growing up? Was attending an Easter celebration part of your traditions?
Was there someone whom you invited to Easter Sunday? What stories of transformation do you have to share? How will you intentionally invest spiritually in that person/people?
Open your Bibles and read John 20:1-8. Which disciple do you identify with most- Peter who ran into the tomb headfirst or John who sat outside of the tomb reflecting? Why? How does this influence the way you follow Jesus?
Pastor Ronnie said on Sunday, “The resurrection doesn’t erase all doubts, answer all questions, or remove all reservations, but it does change everything.” How has the resurrection changed your life personally?
The resurrection validates the reason Christ was crucified- to die in our place on the cross for our sins and to pay the eternal death penalty we deserved because of our sin. Take time now in your group to pray and thank Jesus for the power of His resurrection. Here’s an example: Jesus, thank you for dying for me and resurrecting. You’ve resurrected me from _________________, and I am so thankful to be in Your Kingdom.
Next Step Challenge
If you have not made the decision to follow Jesus, why wait? His resurrection changes your eternal story. Make the commitment to follow Jesus and tell your group that you did! They would love to celebrate with you. If you are a follower of Jesus, whom has God placed in your life that needs His resurrection power? Decide to intentionally invest in that person and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you.
“Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.’” – John 20:29
