June 23-29 • Blessed are the Righteous
We all would agree that if there’s a God in heaven, we want to be blessed by Him. Blessings from God are real, and God wants to bless you with true life that can only come from Him alone. When you live a life that God wants to bless, as defined in Jesus’ famous Sermon on the Mount, you will experience the life that God meant for you to live.
Main Point: God blesses those who are committed to live like Jesus, and for Jesus.
In your own words, how would you define righteousness?
When you think of the characteristic of righteousness, what kind of person comes to your mind?
In Matthew 5:6, what do you think it means to be filled?
On Sunday, Pastor Ronnie gave three examples of self-righteousness that also characterized the Pharisees’ attitudes. Which ones can you relate to in these examples? (You are the standard or judge instead of God; you’re hard-hearted, not holy; you are in right standing with yourself, not God.) These are characteristics of the Pharisees.
What is your next step to live like Jesus, and for Jesus?
Taking A Next Step Together
Righteousness is not something we attain through our own efforts; God declares us righteous when we enter a relationship with Jesus. Are you hungering and thirsting for righteousness by doing what God has already said in the Bible to do and following what the Holy Spirit is leading you to do today? Share with your group what steps you plan to take this week to live like Jesus and for Jesus. What steps can you take together?
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” – Matthew 5:6
